RESIDENTS are being reminded to ensure they are registered to vote in the general election on December 12.

It comes as the council ramps up its efforts ahead of polling day.

A total of 125 polling stations will be open in the town, with more than 500 members of staff to be involved.

The overall cost of the election in the town is approximately £295,000, which is funded by central Government.

Poll cards are being sent to registered electors across the borough.

Anyone who does not receive one should check that they are registered to vote, and if not, do so as soon as possible.

People who are not available to vote in person will need to apply for a postal vote or appoint someone to vote on their behalf, a proxy vote.

The deadline for registering to vote, or to apply for a postal vote is November 26 at 5pm.
