Warrington's best and worst surgeries in GP Patient Survey 2019

The GP Patient Survey 2019 asked residents for their views on their doctors' surgeries across a range of different areas.

For a second year in a row, Manchester Road Surgery was named the best in town according to patients.

Meanwhile, Penketh Health Centre was ranked at the bottom by survey respondents.

In total, 96 per cent of patients at the former rated their overall experience of the practice as being good or better.

Other medical surgeries scoring 90 per cent or above were Fairfield Surgery, Helsby Street Medical Centre, Springfields Medical Centre and Birchwood Medical Centre.

But only 61 per cent of patients Penketh Health Centre were left satisfied.

Parkview Medical Centre, Four Seasons Medical Centre, Greenbank Surgery, Stockton Heath Medical Centre and Chapelford Primary Care Centre were the other practices that achieved below the national average of 83 per cent.

As a whole, 84 per cent of patients in Warrington were happy with the service they received from their surgery.

Other areas measured included how easy residents found it to make an appointment at their practice.

Fairfield Surgery and Springfields Health Centre came out on top in this area with each achieving satisfaction ratings of 88 per cent, while Penketh Health Centre came in last place with 40 per cent.

Cockhedge Medical Centre fared best in terms of patients finding it easy to get through to their practice over the phone – with a 95 per cent satisfaction rate – but Penketh Health Centre came bottom again, scoring 25 per cent.

Four surgeries – Brookfield Surgery, Guardian Street Medical Centre, Holes Lane Medical Centre and Lakeside Surgery – scored 99 per cent for patients' needs being met during their last appointment, although Four Seasons Medical Centre achieved only 86 per cent.

Patients at Fairfield Surgery were the happiest with out-of-hours services with 93 per cent rating them as good or better, while Culcheth Medical Centre was the worst-performing in this regard with 23 per cent.

Dr Sangeetha Steevart, GP and governing body lead for primary care at NHS Warrington Clinical Commissioning Group, said: "General practice is undeniably the bedrock of NHS care.

"In our town, we are really fortunate to benefit from a committed network of primary care colleagues who work hard to ensure that our patients receive the care and support they need.

"There are several areas where we are rated above that national average in this year's survey and we're proud of those achievements, and this demonstrates the time and work that we have invested in primary care to improve our services.

"We have plans in place already for the areas which the survey rated us less favourably, and we will continue to work with our practices and patient representatives to ensure that we continue to learn, develop and improve."
