A MUM has warned fellow parents to be vigilant over their kids’ social media activity after her teenager daughter received death threats from trolls in a sickening new online craze.
Sophie Fleming, from Woolston, was targeted during a barrage of sickening abuse from other teens in what has become known as a ‘roast battle’.
The 15-year-old, who has suffered from alopecia for several years, was added into a Facebook group chat with five other girls who she was formerly friends with.
But the bullies then proceeded to send a series of vile messages in order to ‘roast’ the UTC Warrington student – calling her bald, threatening to break her legs and telling her they would ‘drown her in her own blood’.
A handful of the vile messages Sophie received during the 'roast battle'
Sophie’s mum Naomi said: “It’s called roasting – they roast you until you can’t take any more basically.
“It’s horrible stuff and it’s really upset her.
“They were saying that they would break her legs, calling her bald because she’s got alopecia, telling her to go and get a wig, saying they would drown her in her own blood.
“She was getting death threats, saying they would put her in her grave.
“There were 60 pages of pure abuse.
“It’s absolutely disgusting, it could break some young kids – it’s terrible, what if there’s a kid out there who can’t talk to their parents about it?”
Naomi has since reported the torrent of abuse to the police and hopes that officers will take action against the culprits, who attend a different school – while also warning other parents about the new phenomenon.
She added: “It sounds like its becoming a popular thing among kids and they need to stop it before it starts.
“I’m just hoping that the police will take a stand and say that this can’t happen – I’m not letting it lie.
“A death threat is a death threat in my eyes and they should be done for it.
“Sophie just doesn’t understand why they picked on her.
“It’s horrible growing up in this world at the minute.
“What happened was just vile, and people need to know what’s going on.”
