MOTORISTS experienced long delays this afternoon after the Chester Road swing bridge became stuck open shortly before rush hour.
Chester Road closed around 4pm, when the bridge over the Manchester Ship Canal became jammed.
Queues were reported back to Brian Bevan Island heading from the town centre, with the issue believed to be due to a 'technical fault'.
The road reopened at around 6pm.
Chester-based bomb disposal squads who have been called to an unexploded grenade being found on Livingstone Close in Old Hall are among those who have been stuck in traffic.
