THE first of six consultation sessions on the new local plan takes place on Wednesday.

It will be held in the south stand of The Halliwell Jones Stadium between 2pm and 8pm and the first of a series held at the venue until June 8.

More than 7,000 homes have been earmarked for green belt land after the council set out its 20-year vision for Warrington earlier this year.

The controversial draft local plan – which is aimed at delivering the homes, jobs, transport infrastructure and community facilities the town requires – was approved for consultation in March by councillors.

The draft document sets out the legal planning framework for the borough’s development over the next two decades.

It has been drawn up in accordance with Government planning guidance and ‘informed’ by feedback from the public, says Warrington Borough Council.

The draft aims to deliver 18,900 new homes – or 945 a year – up until 2037.

It is also bidding to support the borough’s economic growth by making 362 hectares of employment land available.
