STEVE Price says he was pleased with the two points Warrington Wolves gained against Hull Kingston Rovers – but nothing more.

The Wire made it two Super League wins from as many games in 2019 with a 28-14 victory at The Halliwell Jones Stadium, with Harvey Livett scoring twice on his return to the side.

However, Price says the team “expect better from themselves” after a performance that was scrappy at times.

“I’m pleased to get two points, but it was a performance I’m not happy with,” he said.

“We did what we had to do – knocked out a win against a team that are going to cause a lot of problems throughout the year.

“They’ve got a quality roster and have improved their depth from last year.

“Throughout the game, we made it too comfortable for them at times. We expect better from ourselves.

“To score 28 points in round two of the season and to knock out a win is pleasing.

“We need to play with more intent. A couple of our offensive strategies didn’t come off but we’ll be better for it.”

Tom Lineham, Josh Charnley and Mike Cooper also crossed for The Wire, with Ben Crooks, Craig Hall and Jimmy Keinhorst scoring Rovers’ tries.

Warrington again were reduced to 12 men for a period in the first half as Blake Austin was yellow-carded for contact with the head of Rovers skipper Joel Tomkins, who was taken to hospital with a concussion as a result.

Price took the positives that, as against Leeds last week, his side defended well in the main while down on numbers.

On the incident itself, the Wire boss played down its severity.

“I thought the Blake incident was just being aggressive,” he said.

“I couldn’t see anything wrong with it from where I was sitting, to be honest. I’ll have to review it again.

“What does give me confidence is that we’ve played with 12 men for 30 minutes over the past two weeks and have kept two teams to scoring just 20 points.

“It’s only early. We’ve got a week off now and we’ll regroup ready for Huddersfield.”

Lama Tasi made his Wire debut from the bench but his afternoon was ended early as he came off injured.

“Lama has a pretty severe cut,” Price said.

“He’s getting stitched up at the moment, I think he’s having around 16 or 18 in his shin.

“It was a bit of a weird one. I’m not quite sure how it actually happened but other than that we’ve come through unscathed.”
