THIS was the brazen moment a parked car was vandalised as youths caused havoc on Mischief Night across the town.

The CCTV was released by the family after the car wing mirror was smashed on Virginia Gardens in Chapelford at 6.30pm yesterday, Tuesday.

Leticia Orford, who installed the CCTV to protect her home after falling victim to anti-social behaviour last Halloween, said: “I heard a noise first and I thought it was my son coming back from football training.

“I looked outside and there was no-one there. Five minutes after my son arrived we noticed the mirror had been smashed.

“Last Halloween they threw a big stone at my front window.

“Although there was no major damage, my daughter was petrified. That’s why I decided to install the cameras.

“My neighbour’s car had his back window wiper pulled out and another lady mentioned that around 20 kids were passing while she was getting kids out of the car and they booted her car.

“How scary for young children to experience that in the only place you feel safe – your home. It’s very frustrating and infuriating.”

But this is not the only report of criminal damage and vandalism that unfolded over night with a number of residents living in Chapelford and Westbrook sharing their frustration and anger on social media.

There were also reports of youths throwing fireworks in the park in Chapelford while another resident reported how a group had been spotted throwing items off the bridge near Asda Westbrook.

Sgt Paul Flynn said: “Tuesday night’s behaviour was unacceptable and not something we expect from young people in Warrington.

"My officers and I were out last night dealing with the group causing trouble.

"We dispersed them and took five home to their parents who were understandably horrified that they had been involved in such disgraceful behaviour.

“We have strongly advised the youngsters in front of their parents and will be out again on Halloween taking a no tolerance attitude.

"We will take you home to your parents, or if you are caught committing criminal damage or other criminal offences, you could be spending the evening in a cell.

“If anyone has any information on the criminal damage last night or sees any anti-social behaviour we would ask you to contact us on 101.”
