Karl Fitzpatrick is chief executive at Warrington Wolves.
He tells us why youth is so important for the future at that the Wire are looking for two additions for 2019
WE are now getting to the business end of the season and I am really happy with how things are going.
There has been a great turnaround from last season so much so that our position in the top four has been confirmed with three games left in the regular season.
And that is an especially great achievement given the disappointment of last year.
And given the amount of change we have seen this year with a new head coach and a number of new players, that is especially pleasing for us.
We were thoroughly disappointed with how the Challenge Cup Final went against Catalans last month.
We lost out in every department and we did not deserve to win.
Full credit to the Catalans Dragons for the exceptional performance.
We would like to get a couple of extra players on board for next season and there are a couple of players we are looking at at the moment.
As I have mentioned before in the Warrington Guardian, the market is difficult at the moment and that is why it is so important to produce our own players.
And that is why we have brought in a coach for our academy team of the calibre of Paul Anderson.
He has a fantastic record as a coach at all levels.
He did a great job at Huddersfield Giants, first under Nathan Brown and then as head coach when he won the League Leaders’ Shield.
He has also worked at with the top young talent in the game with the England Knights system
He should be a really positive acquisition for the organisation.
And youth is an area of the game we really to need to improve in, so we are producing more of our own home grown players.
The market is difficult and it means you must produce your own players.
The way the salary cap currently works means you get dispensation for home grown players which means younger players within the squad do not count on the salary cap.
And that all means we can then have a bigger squad to play with.
