FIVE new clubs enter the Halifax Home Insurance National Youth League when the new season gets under way in early next month.
All will have their sights set firmly on taking the title held by current champions Siddal (West Yorkshire).
This will be the third year of the competition, which compliments the professional Academy structure at under 18 level, the inaugural winners in 2005 being Widnes St Maries.
Gateshead Thunder, Saddleworth Rangers, Rylands of Warrington, East Leeds and Elland are the 2007/08 debutants in the sixteen team structure which is split into East and West Conferences; leading to play offs and a Grand Final, which last season was staged at Headingley Carnegie Stadium.
Admission to the Halifax Home Insurance National Youth League is by application and based on stringent criteria which include playing strength, organisational structure and facilities.
The RFL's Development Manager for the youth game, Andy Harland, who has operational responsibility for the League commented: "Each season the standard of the competition has increased and it is a highly prestigious title to win, which will test all of the clubs to the limit.
"I am particularly pleased to welcome the new boys who, I am sure, will all bring something exciting and innovative to the League and there should be some tremendous derby fixtures to look forward to throughout the winter."
The new campaign begins on September 9th, with the ultimate decider taking place at the end of April.
In addition, there will be monthly awards to the best player and coach.
