TODAY marks one week since Salford-born presenter Anthony Wilson died and Salford City Reds will be marking the occasion with a musical tribute to be held before the game as the Reds take on St Helens at The Willows.
Renowned for the thriving Manchester Music scene back in the 80's and 90's, Wilson was a Reds fan often declining the offer of complimentary tickets to a game, instead paying on the turnstiles and standing in the shed.
Therefore it is fitting that Salford play Tony's music, to fellow Salfordians, to celebrate the life of a man who did so much for the culture of the cities of Salford and Manchester.
Salford City Reds Media Manager Kate Parkinson said: "It was a pleasure to have worked with Tony during his time at BBC Manchester.
"Salford City Reds will miss a devoted supporter and advocate of the game of rugby league.
"Players, staff and supporters at Salford City Reds offer their deepest condolences to Tony's family at this sad time."
Music from the likes of the Happy Mondays, New Order, and Joy Division will ring around the Willows as usual on Friday night, only this time it will be a poignant tribute to a visionary character who will be sadly missed.
