It was the hottest day in the history of the world ever yesterday.
Well, maybe not, but my colleague Gareth is currently saying it was the hottest day for more than a year and that's good enough for me.
Good enough for us to justify pulling out of a 15 mile run after 14 miles.
It was so hot. Too hot.
We reckoned on doing 15 miles in two and a half hours or thereabouts, but we hadn't completed 13 by that time.
Catherine is very proud and I know it is harder for her to stop than carry on going, but for over a mile she was saying she had nothing left in her legs. Helpfully, I offered her some Kendal Mint Cake, but (and I know this is hard to believe) sometimes Kendal Mint Cake doesn't cut the mustard... or help runners who are generally done in.
After much persuasion, she agreed to start walking, and we walked just under a mile to my parents and got a lift home.
I felt like I needed an ice bath.
Instead we got quick showers and scarpered out of the house as we were meeting our friends to go to 'Go Ape' in Delamere Forest.
For those of you who don't know, Go Ape is a high wire adventure thing, where you climb up ropes and cargo nets and walk through the trees. JUST what you want to do after 14 miles in heat that would rival a Timbuktuvian sauna.
My marathon mentor Hazel has told me that 500ml of Lucozade isn't quite enough for 2.5 hours of running... I'm shocked. First the Mint Cake body blow and now this.
She has suggested putting bottles of water around our route in bushes so we can grab them on the way, so I think we'll try that next time.
And then hopefully, we won't get so hot.
