A POLISH immigrant worker's story is being told through a Longford man's film about the first Polish bus driver in Warrington and the struggle he faced in migrating and finding work.

Peter Regan, aged 20, from Northway, in Longford, made Pole to Pole to highlight the issues surrounding Polish immigrants.

The film tells the story of Wojiek Aniola who became Warrington Borough Transport's first Polish bus driver two years ago.

"I was born in Spain and only moved back to the UK as a 12-year-old, so in some respects, I could relate to where Wojiek was coming from, as I guess I could be classed as an immigrant too" said Peter, an art foundation student at Priestley College.

"The interesting thing about Wojiek to me was the aspect of seeing a typical day in his life at first hand," he said.

"I was given the impression that Wojiek came to the country in order to better his life with the overall view that with no job he would have no future.

"I hope it shows another side of the story from a personal view, which the Warrington public may not be aware of."

Former Polish rock star Wojiek travelled to the United Kingdom two years ago in order to build a better life.

Originally from Poznan, (100 miles from the German border), he had little idea of how life would pan out.

"I took a chance," said Wojiek, aged 48.

"I was hopeful of finding work when I arrived but will admit I was nervous and worried about the future.

"Life was hard in the early days but I hope Peter's production will show, not only my story, but one which is similar for many Eastern Europeans in Warrington," he added.

"Who knows, he may well have made me into the next Robert De Niro!"

Peter's documentary is likely to be displayed at local film festivals in the future.
