FORGET Singin' In The Rain, Centenary Theatre Company would rather it be Raining Men.

Because fresh from their sell-out run of the musical made famous by Gene Kelly at Runcorn's Brindley Theatre, the theatre group has put out the call for more men to join the ranks.

Dan Grimes, chairman, said "We've got the same problem as lots of other societies. Loads of enthusiastic ladies and not enough gentlemen.

"There are loads of great shows and plays that we would love to stage but would be impossible without the men to do it."

The group are planning to perform Stephen Sondheim's Sweeney Todd (soon to be released on the big screen with Johnny Depp) in May 2008.

"Finding men willing to sing and generally to have a go would turn this great show into an achievement that we can be proud of for years to come," added Mr Grimes.

Centenary member and Warrington bus driver Rob Gregory added: "Joining is a great way to meet people.

"Blokes can sometimes feel intimidated about the idea of going on stage but that's only a small part of it.

"I've found that being involved has given me more confidence."
