NEWTS and bats helped stop a bungalow getting planning permission from the borough council.
An ecologist said the conversion of a footpath to a road to serve the bungalow in Appleton could spell danger bats and Great Crested Newts.
The ecologist wrote: "I appears Pewterspear Lane allows movement of wildlife between two ponds - any increase in the use of the lane would reduce this connectivity and would be undesirable from a nature conservation perspective."
The planning committee rejected the application last week on the grounds of highway safety, imposition on the footpath, and damage to the areas' ecology.
The proposed bungalow, on land to the rear of Brook House and Linton House, on Cann Lane South, has planning permission already but last week's application was for a new permission with road access from Pewterspear Lane, not Cann Lane South.
Dorothy Edwards from Appleton Parish Council and resident Mrs Williams both spoke against the new application at the planning meeting, held at the town hall.
