Jo:Number 1, Warrington was run by the Labour party for 23 years and they seem to have no interest in promoting the environment in the town. Since the Lib Dem / Tory coalition took over last year we have taken steps on all aspects of improving Warrington's environment particuarly in terms of bus useage which is up 18% already. We've also increased recycling rates and we do plan to put in cycling routes.
David: I don't disagree with anything that Jo has just said, but I would add two things - if you go to the areas of new development, eg. Whittle Hall there are far more cycle lanes, in fact last week when I was canvassing there I was run over by a man on a bike!... It was probably my fault!
Perhaps a particular issue in Warrington with cycling is the need to cross all the canals which doesn't make doing this any easier.
Jo:It's a shame Helen Southworth isn't here because we could have found out what she has done to encourage alternative transportation in Warrington since 1997.
