PAY and display in Lymm's car parks could be back on the agenda in a bid to solve the village's parking woes.

A controversial pay and display scheme was shelved two years ago but council leader Ian Marks said it was time the idea was put back on the table following more complaints about the parking problems at this month's parish council.

The meeting was told that many of the shopkeepers were worried that commuters were parking on the village car parks, especially Pepper Street, and leaving their vehicles there all day. Clr Marks said it was time to revisit other options.

He added: "I believe that we ought to have another go at that. There was not enough imagination before.

"It works in Stockton Heath so there can be ways around it."

The original scheme was to introduce pay and display for people parking longer than two hours - not for people staying on a short-term basis.

However, it was scrapped after opposition from residents living in nearby streets, especially close to the main car park in Pepper Street.

They feared that charging motorists would force people to park on the roads.

Parish councillors agreed to speak to staff from Warrington Borough Council's highways department to ask them to carrying out further investigations.

The issue will be discussed again at the next meeting of the parish council in September. gdunning@guardiangrp.co.uk
