ONE of the biggest stars in rugby league has returned to his roots to tell his own story.
Paul Sculthorpe, who made his debut for Warrington Wolves more than 10 years ago, has penned his autobiography, Man of Steel, with the help of Warrington-based journalist Phil Thomas.
And to coincide with the launch of the book in Waterstones next weekend, the Warrington Guardian has five signed copies up for grabs in an exclusive competition.
The St Helens captain was signed from Warrington in 1997 for a then world record fee of £370,000.
Since then he has won all of the biggest competitions available in the sport, captained the Great Britain national side and won the prestigious Man of Steel title -awarded to the league's player of the season - twice - the only player to have achieved the feat in successive years.
He has teamed up with sports writer Phil Thomas to write the book.
Phil, who worked at the Warrington Guardian, has worked for The Sun for more than a decade and spent four seasons covering Liverpool and Warrington.
He said: "Given a 100-fold increase in ability, fitness, courage, dedication and a lucky break or two, I, too, could have possibly been a professional sportsman."
He lives in the town with girlfriend, Paula, dog, Bud and he has one daughter, Hannah.
Paul will be at Waterstones between 4pm and 5pm on Saturday, August 4 - but if you can't wait that long we have copies to giveaway. See this week's Warrington Guardian for how to enter.
