THE borough council has named the new dogs home to take strays. Its old contract was with Leigh Animal Sanctuary.
Leigh Animal Sanctuary agreed to change its name to Leigh Cats and Dogs Home Ltd after a Charity Commission probe.
It was also the subject of allegations in the Sunday Times over treatment of greyhounds. It denied the allegations and is understood to have begun legal proceedings.
Leigh decided not to bid for the contract this year.
The new home is Cheshire Dogs Home on Knutsford Road in Grappenhall.
The borough council said: "Strays collected by dog wardens will stay for a maximum of seven days before being re-homed.
"Owners may only reclaim their dogs if they can provide proof of ownership and make a payment of £50 for up to 3 days' stay or £75 for up to a week.
For more information phone the home on 269500. It is open to visitors from 1pm to 5pm, Monday to Saturday, and from 1pm to 4pm on Sundays.
