A POLICEMAN was narrowly missed by a mystery target-seconds later the window of his panda car was smashed.
Glass from the car window shattered after what was believed to be a bullet from an air rifle flew past PC Brian Pritchard on Saturday.
The incident happened on at 11.50pm as PC Pritchard was on patrol, parked on Park Road its junction with on Knutsford Road. Latchford.
PC Pritchard said: "What happened is highly unusual-police are rarely the subject of an attack. I'm not sure if it was meant to hit me or the car window but police being targeted is extremely worrying.
I was sitting in the car and the next thing I heard was a loud smash, I turned to the entire rear window had shattered.
"It was dark so I could not see who or where the culprit came from."
The damaged car is now awaiting repairs, meaning Warrington South Neighbourhood Policing Unit are a vehicle short if called out on emergency.
Witnesses or anyone with information should call PC Pritchard on 01244 612 635.
