GOLFERS raised thousands for charity inspired by a Great Sankey girl with cerebral palsy.

A £100 entry four-ball competition at Mersey Valley Golf Club in Bold Heath on Friday attracted 92 players.

Organiser Brian Thompson, aged 61, from Blackley Close, in Latchford, said he hoped it had raised more than £3,000.

His niece is the mother of Lucy Brailey, aged nine, from Hilary Close, a pupil at Park Road Primary School, in Wroxham Road, Sankey.

He said: "She is a lovely intelligent girl. She goes to mainstream school and is doing very well."

Brian, a retired production supervisor for Solvay, thanked the club for free use of the course, all the entrants and sponsors, and in particular World of Beds, Touchline UK, Tailor Made Financial Solutions and Polar Ford.

The charity Lucy visits twice a week is Rainbow House in Chorley. It helps children with neurological disorders.

She lives with mum, Colette, aged 36, who has her own business called The Craft Store in Thelwall, and dad Steven, aged 39, a fabrications manager who works in Leeds
