THIS week in Yester Years in the latest of our lost landmarks season we take a look back at the town’s industrial heritage.

It is more than a decade since the closure of the last major wire manufacturer in Warrington.

Carrington Wire, based on Battersby Lane, was the biggest producer of Wire when it closed in the early 2000s.

It brought to an end a tradition of more than 200 years of wire making in the town.

Take a look back at the factory as it was when opened, as well as the images from the demolition of the site in the mid 2000s.

The land is now home to the Carrington Park housing estate.

But wire does remain alive in Warrington at Lockers in Howley.
