A WALL of shame' in Sankey police station names six youths giving residents a terrible quality of life'.

Police held a public meeting with Friends Lane residents because a gang of youths are drinking on the nearby farmers fields.

Officers have tried moving on the six ringleaders and CSO Steve Grady told Sankey Parish Council they had recently been spotted around Tim Parry Community Centre off Wroxham Road.

They have drawn up action plans to deal with the problem including the potential creation of off-license watch' in a similar style to pub watch, and a specific intelligence database on the problem.

CSO Grady said: "We have six photos of them up in the station and we call it the wall of shame."

The problems in the area are caused by over 18s buying drink then passing it on to under 18s, who drink in bushes around the fields, sometimes sparking fights, rowdy behaviour and public urination.

Police admitted at a previous meeting of Sankey Parish Council the residents were in a desperate situation' with a terrible quality of life'.

CSO Grady said the police were putting in a lot of work collecting statements and gathering evidence but they needed backing from the courts.

He added: "I spoke to a relative of the farmer who owns most of the land, Mr Massam, because he is quite old, and made them aware of their responsibility in relation to the land they own."
