A NEW science block with 12 classrooms could be built at Great Sankey High School.
Plans have been submitted for the new building and application documents say it will help meet demand as the number of students at the school increases.
Four biology labs, four chemistry labs and four physics labs will be fitted out in the 1,447 sq ft block.
The single storey building is planned for unused land next to the playing fields, south of the sixth form block.
Planning documents say: “The building will provide new up to date teaching accommodation for the school’s growing student intake.”
Great Sankey High School recently completed a consultation on its admissions policy and governors approved plans to increase pupil numbers from 315 per year group to 375 from September 2018.
Plans for the new building show it will also have a large store room for equipment, an office, foyer and toilets.
Footpaths will be installed to connect the new building to other parts of the school and an escape route will also be built.
The design of the block will be in keeping with the nearby sixth form centre and developers expect minimal disruption to the landscape surrounding the site.
The documents say pupil and staff numbers will not be increased by the proposed build and therefore no new car parking has been planned.
Access to the site will be from Barrow Hall Lane beside the middle school building.
A consultation on the plans ends on March 21 and to view the proposals in full visit planning.warrington.gov.uk.
