THE captain of a ship travelling down the Manchester Ship Canal spotted a fire on a wooden jetty this morning, June 8.
Firefighters rushed to the scene on Moore Lane at around 7.15 am after the captain reported the incident.
The firefighters had to cut a padlock on a gate to get to the scene of the fire and then used a hose reel jet to extinguish the flames.
Fortunately no casualties were reported.
