I was having a great cycle home today until I saw the accident.
The sun was shining. The roads were not too busy.
A even tailed a proper cycling from Lane Ends all the way thorugh Penketh and Cuerdley.
He was just pootling along and I had to to put in some effort to keep up but I could manage it.
All in all I was enjoying myself.
Then, at the roundbaout that heralds your entrance into Widnes after you pass Fiddlers Ferry, I saw a police car pulled up.
I could make out a man sat down on the grass in the middle of the roundabout.
Then I saw another lying, immoble, with a blanket over him.
A bike lay on the grass and a car was parked up.
It looked like the two had collided and car driver was comforing the cyclist.
There seemed no panic and I think there was a paramedic there.
But the stillness of the cyclist really worried me.
It was a bit of a sharp reminder of the potential dangers out there - I use the roundabout twice a day.
Whoever that guy was, whatever happened, I hope it was not as serious as it looked tonight.
