MORE vandalism has been reported at the Blackburne Close footpath.
The footpath linking the Longbarn street to Woolston Grange Avenue has been subjected to almost constant vandalism since it was first installed following the demolition of the Pink Bridge.
Longbarn Residents Association chairman Geoff Orange has said that Warrington Borough Council has not listened to the wishes of people living in the close.
Last year, the council decided not to act on their petition which called for the footpath to be filled in.
Mr Orange said: “Once again our council has decided not to listen to its residents who live continually with this problem and treat them with disdain, which is totally unacceptable.
“This is being continually vandalised and is a dangerous road safety issue since children going to and from Birchwood High School together with many adults do not use the controlled crossing to cross Woolston Grange Avenue but simply vault over the metal fence – sometimes with their bicycles – and run straight across the road in front of fast moving vehicles, putting their lives in danger.
“Do we have to wait for someone to get killed before any action is taken?
“Additionally, the concrete sides of the pathway are being continually broken into smaller pieces making the footway unsightly and residents are concerned that these concrete pieces could be thrown through car windscreens and possibly through windows of adjacent houses and bungalows.
“On behalf of its residents Longbarn Residents Association is calling on Warrington Borough Council to take action and not to simply ignore requests that are made to it.”
