STREET parking capacity in the town centre will be increased as part of the borough's traffic management vision.

Following the consultation exercise for easing congestion in the town, the council has received feedback suggesting the majority of businesses and residents are in favour of the improvement scheme.

Residents noted that loading arrangements are too restrictive for some of the businesses in the area to continue operating as they currently do and that there may be issues with dropping off within Springfield Street.

The proposal has been amended to include a loading bay located on the east side of Springfield Street.

Within the new proposal, parking will be prohibited anywhere within that particular section of Springfield Street between Palmyra Square South and Palmyra Square North.

And loading or unloading will only be permitted within the marked out bay.

It is anticipated that the parking capacity within the roads surrounding the Queens Gardens will be reviewed as part of the next phase of the public realm improvements for the Cultural Quarter.

This will increase on-street parking capacity and specifically identify locations that could be protected for blue badge parking.

Deputy council leader Mike Hannon said: "We're very proud of the way the Cultural Quarter has evolved in recent years and these are exciting proposals to make it an even more attractive part of the town centre scene.

"And we want to know what the people who use the Cultural Quarter – its businesses and customers – think about the plans."

The amended proposal will be advertised publicly today, December 10.

The advertisement period will last for 28 days and during that time any representations in support or against the proposal must be made in writing or to trafficmanagement@warrington.gov.uk
