WARRINGTON South MP David Mowat is urging motorists to avoid drink and drug driving over the festive period.
Mr Mowat has pointed to new data from Moneysupermarket showing that 1.05 in every 1000 drivers in his constituency have a drink or drug driving conviction.
Moneysupermarket analysed 11 million car insurance quotes run over the past year.
It found Crewe has the highest proportion of motorists with offences for drink and drug driving, with 1.74 convictions out of every 1000, while Central London drivers had the lowest with 0.12.
Mr Mowat said: "I want everyone in Warrington to be able to enjoy themselves over the Christmas break.
"There's no harm in having a few drinks but you need to plan ahead how you're going to get safely home afterwards.
"Drivers who choose to get behind the wheel while under the influence are not only endangering their lives and careers, they are putting the lives of all other road users at risk too."
Kevin Pratt, car insurance expert at Moneysupermarket, added: "There are serious consequences for those caught for drink or drug driving, including up to six months of jail time, a driving ban of at least a year and a fine of up to £5,000.
"Even after a punishment has been served, a conviction will sit on your licence for 11 years and you'll have to declare the offence when you apply for car insurance for five years."
