A COUNCILLOR'S claims over fly-tipping in Fairfield and Howley have been questioned by an executive member.

TUSC councillor Kevin Bennett believes the issue is blighting the lives of residents across his ward and believes they are being 'neglected'.

At Monday's full council meeting he put forward a question to Cllr Judith Guthrie, executive member for environment and public protection.

He said: "What steps has this council taken to tackle fly-tipping on Cabul Close, Quebec Road, St Elphin's Close, St Katherine's Way and at the rear of shops on Orford Lane in Fairfield and Howley?"

Cllr Guthrie (LAB – Westbrook) said Warrington is 'succeeding' in its bid to recycle more but admitted the actions of a few 'continue to frustrate us'.

She also confirmed the council has been in contact with residents in the area over how to correctly dispose of waste.

Cllr Guthrie added: "We need evidence – people have a duty of care to report it.

"We have been around and only saw evidence of one black plastic bag, which was removed immediately.

"I don't agree in parts that some of this is happening."

Cllr Bennett also said resident have been complaining about dog mess in the area and is calling on the council and Golden Gates Housing Trust to do more.
