THE man primed with the task of developing strong links between communities has praised a Latchford Sikh temple for its kindness and hospitality following his first visit.
Chairman of building stronger communities in the town, Cllr Tony Higgins, visited Warrington Guru Nanak Gurdwara, on Dover Road, last Tuesday.
He enjoyed a special service, which was translated into English, as well as holy food.
Cllr Higgins said the experience proved to be extremely educational.
He added: "I felt truly honoured to be met with kindness and true hospitality by all.
"I'm learning so much about our community and how diverse Warrington is.
"I'm determined to work hard for all and to do what I can to develop a better understanding of all our many cultural groups .
"It's important to me that I learn as much as I can about our mixed and diverse community, especially when it comes to making decisions .
"I visited the Sikh temple not knowing what to expect and with little knowledge about their community but I left with a real sense of friendship and will be visiting them again soon.
"I want to make my role as the equalities champion count and up to date – I've been to many cultural events and I've certainly done a lot of learning."
