THE WARRINGTON Man of Steel Awards have been held to celebrate individuals who have given their time to rugby league in the town.

Amateur and junior rugby league players and dedicated volunteers were celebrated in an awards ceremony at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.

One junior player from every age group between 12-18 years old received a Man of Steel award, while honours were also dished out to tag and masters rugby league players.

Community Hero awards were given to volunteers at each of the seven amateur clubs across Warrington while Heart and Sole of Rugby League awards were dedicated to people who have left a legacy in the town.

Each Heart and Sole winner will have a footprint displayed next to the heritage timeline under the South Stand at the Halliwell Jones Stadium, with the five winners including Brian Chambers and Evelyn McEvoy.

The ceremony was hosted by Sky Sports presenter Rod Studd, with 300 attendees joined by rugby league stars past and present.

Leader of Warrington Borough Council and chair of the Warrington and Cheshire Rugby League Management Board Cllr Terry O’ Neil said: “”It is fantastic to be able to recognise our young players for their achievements whilst at the same time we can remember those who have left their mark on rugby league in Warrington.

“The Rugby League Management Board have once again been the driving force behind this event and celebrate our wonderful sport together – now let’s get more people playing rugby league more often.”
