WARRINGTON South MP David Mowat is determined to continue promoting chess in schools across the town after witnessing its benefits first hand.
It follows a visit to Evelyn Street Primary School in Sankey Bridges last month where pupils were given the opportunity to play the strategic game thanks to a collaboration between Mr Mowat and national charity Chess in Schools and Communities.
The MP put the school and charity in touch with each other and was thrilled to see the progress being made.
"I was delighted to see how enthusiastically the children and staff had taken to chess," he said.
"The lessons have clearly been a massive hit and are having an influence both inside and outside school.
"Staff at the school told me that there has already been a noticeable effect on behaviour and learning.
"It has also helped children who perhaps struggle in other areas to display a new set of skills and shine.
"I will now be looking to promote chess in more of Warrington's schools."
