HUNDREDS of people are expected to take part in a festive lantern parade through the town centre next Thursday, December 10.
The procession of lights, organised by Culture Warrington, will start at Queens Gardens at 6.45pm and finish with Christmas entertainment and carol singing in the Old Fish Market.
James Goodison, who has made more than 2,000 lanterns from paper, wood and even recycled sweet wrappers over the years, is leading the parade.
He is also hosting workshops so that youngsters can make their own lanterns to bring along. This year's theme is Dick Whittington to tie in with January's panto at the Parr Hall.
James said: "The idea is that we show people how to make the lanterns and then once they are completed children and adults go home and decorate them in different colours and designs.
"They then bring the lanterns back out for the parade on December 10. The colourful creations we see every year are amazing."
Ian Cox, Golden Square manager, added: "We’re delighted to be hosting the finale at the Golden Square Christmas Village, and we hope lots of people will stick around to enjoy the stalls and festive treats on offer."
Lantern parade workshops are being held this Saturday:
Golden Square, 11am to 4pm
Burtonwood Library, 11am to 12pm
Birchwood Library, 11.30am to 12.30pm
Warrington Library, 2pm to 3pm
