WORK to improve Parkfields Park has revealed a stone circle that hadn’t been seen for several years.
The Fearnhead park’s stone circle was revealed after work took place to cut back years of overgrowth that had covered the stones.
Work has been taking place in the area over the last two years since the Mayor of Warrington Cllr Geoff Settle set up the Friends of Parkfields group.
In that time the group has improved drainage in the park with help of the 75 Engineer Regiment, replaced several features with the help of the Mersey Forest, fixed street lights and cut back bracken to reveal the ring of stones.
A regular grass cutting regime is also planned to be reinstated, but one resident believes that safety in the park could be improved further.
Elizabeth Hall has lived in the area for around 20 years and often goes litter picking in the park.
She said: “It has been overgrown for at least three years and it all needs thinning back for safety reasons – particularly for women walking alone.
“Mr Settle is concerned with the large stones and original design of the park being restored but that isn’t what the public are bothered about.
“I personally have no interest in the big stones – I want short grass, good views around shrubbery, the burnt out play area removed if it isn’t going to be restored.
“I go in there with the dog alone and you can’t see round the corner so it’s just a bit of a mess.
“If drug users could be seen they wouldn’t congregate behind the shrubs.”
