THE smiling face of a Moore schoolgirl is beaming out from giant posters in shops across the country.
Katie Renshaw, eight, has been chosen to promote a Matalan Christmas bobble vs beanie hat appeal which is donating 100 per cent of profits to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital Charity.
She has been treated at the hospital for cerebral palsy since she was one.
Surgeon Colin Bruce carried out a nine-hour operation to straighten her legs and feet in February and she now has to learn to walk again.
And despite her two year recovery, her family say she never stops smiling.
Katie, from Sandymoor, was invited to a photo shoot in London where she met Atomic Kitten’s Liz McClarnon and model Sarah Ann Macklin.
Katie, a pupil at Moore Primary School, said: “I’ve loved being team bobble.
“It’s been great to be part of something this big to help raise money for Alder Hey.”
Her mum, Clare, 40, said: “Katie is amazing. She is very bubbly.
“She had a ball doing the photo shoot.
“She would love to be a model.”
She had 10 incisions in her legs during the multi-level surgery.
Clare added: “Katie’s surgeon Mr Bruce is always so happy, bubbly and fun and that made her trust him from day one.
“All the staff have been fantastic and very caring.
“She has to wear splints on her feet but she doesn’t see herself as having a disability.
“She can’t run round like her friends but she will have a go at everything.
“She is very confident and has already raised funds for the hospital’s hydrotherapy pool.”
Louise Barrett from Alder Hey Children’s Charity said: “Katie is an amazing and inspiring girl who has been through so much but is always willing to help other children by raising money where she can.
“I would like to thank her for her continuous support.”
Proceeds from the campaign will go towards a research, education and innovation centre at the new Alder Hey Children’s Hospital.
