COUNCIL and police chiefs met with members of Warrington’s Muslim community to discuss common issues in the town in the wake of the Paris terrorist attacks.
Senior members of Cheshire Police and Warrington councillors met with Muslim communities to ensure the continued harmony in the town.
Deputy Mayor Cllr Faisal Rashid said: “I am pleased that we were able to come together and discuss social cohesion in Warrington – it is wonderful that all political parties were represented and committed to continued engagement with the whole community.
“All partners have expressed their desire to work together to increase cultural engagement and integration and I will do my best to achieve this in Warrington to make a better place to live for all of us.”
All at the meeting expressed condolences for those in Paris and condemned the attacks on the city and elsewhere in the world.
Council leader Cllr Terry O’ Neill said: “The council is committed to working with all community leaders and partners to ensure that Warrington continues to be a welcoming, peaceful place for all communities.
“We are working hard to ensure that all residents have the same opportunities in life and individuals and communities work together to promote trust, respect and understanding.
“We want people to feel proud of belonging to Warrington and help individuals and communities feel safe.”
