WARRINGTON Round Table debuted its new Santa sleigh this week.
The sleigh, which visits several different locations across the South of the town throughout the festive season, has been described as a ‘Christmas tradition’ by honorary secretary Andrew Butcher.
It is the group’s biggest fundraiser for the wide range of charitable causes that they support throughout the year.
A nuclear physicist at Birchwood Park, 27-year-old Andrew said: “It’s brilliant – there’s quite a bit of work to put it together and get everything ready so it needs a lot of planning but we usually have Santa and between four and eight people collecting donations.
“It’s one of those things where people no we’re coming and it’s a Christmas tradition – it’s the start of the Christmas season.
“It can be a cold night but people will come out and stand on the street corner and the looks on their faces is just brilliant and heart-warming.
“All the money goes into our charity account and is then given out to local causes throughout the year.”
The group are aiming to raise £3,000 with the sleigh but have raised as much as £5,000 in previous years.
Sankey Bridges resident Andrew says the group has gone from strength to strength in the seven years he has been a member.
He said: “We’ve grown quite a lot in the last couple of years – there’s a real mix of people from engineers to accountants to self-employed people.
“Members are from all walks of life but they share the fact that they want to give something back.”
