EXPECTING mothers in the town are being encouraged to get their free flu jab by the NHS Warrington Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG).
Contracting flu when pregnant can lead to complications and can also be very serious for new born babies which is why the CCG want mothers to take precautions.
When pregnant the immune system weakens and as a result the body finds it more difficult to fight infections which can then be passed on to new born babies.
Dr Dan Bunstone, GP and chairman of Warrington CCG, said: “Pregnant women have a higher chance of developing complications if they get flu.
“The flu vaccine is safe during any stage of pregnancy, from the first few weeks up to your expected due date.
“Women that have the vaccine when pregnant pass some protection to their unborn baby, which lasts for the first few months of their lives.
“Don’t put it off; help protect yourself and your baby by speaking to your midwife or GP today.
“The flu jab is quick, safe and free to all pregnant women.”
