DURING November our Humans of Warrington feature will be telling the stories behind Women's Institute (WI) members as the organisation celebrates 100 years in 2015.
NAME: Maralyn Barlow
AGE: 65
OCCUPATION: Retired teacher
WI ROLE: Lymm WI president
"I joined the WI in time for their party to celebrate the millennium.
"Everyone was incredibly friendly and very welcoming so I joined there and then with a friend.
"It's my second time round as president and I think I'm a bit more relaxed doing it now.
"It was a bit daunting the first time but I know all the members a lot better now and know what they want to do and what they're interested in.
"It's amazing the WI is still going strong and grown even more in recent years with a lot more WIs forming.
"The group is not a lot of ladies having cups of tea but the WI also does a lot of campaigning.
"Our members came up with the resolution regarding buying large quantities of paracetamol while Cheshire put forward a resolution about the rights of grandparents and over the years we had a hand in a lot of social legislation."
