Travel agents celebrate success at star-studded event
CALLANDS-based travel agent Rebecca Degiorgio and Burtonwood-based agent Sue Pattenden joined more than 1,400 colleagues from around the world to celebrate the success of their travel business at Travel Counsellors annual conference last month.
Rebecca and Sue who both run thier own travel business as part of leading independent travel company Travel Counsellors, were invited to attend the event at Manchester Central as a reward for her hard work and continued success.
The three day event boasted an impressive celebrity line-up and an array of special guests, including inspirational speakers Katie Piper and Chris Moon.
Hosted by TV personality Vernon Kay, attendees including Rebecca were entertained by John Bishop with entertainment from Gary Barlow.
Rebecca said she was proud to work for Travel Counsellors – a company which she described as 'truly amazing'.
Sue added: "The conference really was amazing.
"Apart from the spectacular entertainment, we also had extremely useful business sessions where we were updated on the company’s future developments and given insightful travel advice and tips for the year ahead."
Free eye tests in Burtonwood as part of road safety campaign
A VISION van set up shop in the car park of the M62 Welcome Break services in Burtonwood as part of a campaign to raise awareness of the importance of having regular eye tests.
Drivers were invited to complete a free eye test on November 25 after it was revealed that motorists in the UK are increasingly putting themselves and others on the road at risk by not having their eyes tested frequently enough.
Recent research shows that road crashes caused by poor driver vision are estimated to result in 2,900 casualties a year at a cost £33 Million to the tax payer.
Vision Express has joined forces with the Road Haulage Association in a healthcare initiative backed by British touring car racing champion Tom Ingram.
Christmas gift appeal launched
THE Community Christmas campaign has been launched at Asda Westbrook.
The collection for this year's gift appeal is under way with the staff calling on the public to donate toys, clothing and toiletries in aid of Warrington Salvation Army.
Gifts can be donated in the gift appeal trolley which can be located in the foyer of the supermarket off Cromwell Avenue.
Carol services to held at Westbrook supermarket
YOUNGSTERS from two schools in the town will be descending on Asda Westbrook to host carol services.
Pupils from Winwick Primary School on Myddleton Lane will be entertaining shoppers on Friday, December 4.
The choir from St Bridget's Catholic Primary School on Capesthorne Road will performing on Monday, December 14.
Student top of the class after essay published on Cambridge University college website
AN Old Hall student has been celebrating after one of her essays published on a Cambridge University college website after winning a Science blog competition.
Radhika Sood, who attends Withington Girls’ School (WGS), wrote a piece on the subject of Obesity and the Fat Gene.
The competition was open to schools across the country, with entrants asked to write up to 500 words on a Science-related subject of their choice.
WGS head of chemistry, Dr Cristina Vilela said: “We would like to congratulate everyone who participated.
“It was wonderful to work with William Hulme Grammar School on this project and we are delighted that this Cambridge College is doing so much to engage with, and inspire, our young scientists of the future.”
