A MAN who tried but failed to steal hundreds of pounds worth of alcohol from a supermarket in a foiled trolley dash has been fined.
Marius Baiu from Liverpool was fined £180 at Halton Magistrates’ Court today, Tuesday, after admitting one charge of theft.
The 29-year-old was detained by the security team at Tesco on Winwick Road on Sunday at 1pm after trying to walk out of the supermarket with a trolley packed with £800 worth of goods.
But the staff soon became suspicious of the man’s intentions and he was detained.
A second man, who was suspected of helping the man to escape with the large quantity of alcohol, was detained but no further action has been taken.
All the alcohol was recovered by Tesco.
