FOUR suspected burglars, who allegedly called AA recovery to fix their broken-down 'getaway car' in the midst of a raid, have been charged.
The four men, aged between 31 and 40, were arrested on suspicion of going equipped to steal on Monday morning after they were pulled over by officers from the task force team at 4am.
But they have since been charged with burglary after police investigations uncovered that five vehicles were stolen from a car finance store hours earlier.
The men are suspected of targeting a car salesroom on Farrell Street between Sunday at 9pm and Monday at 3.30am.
Police allege the gang smashed a hole in the wall of the office to take a quantity of keys in order to steal the vehicles.
But as the group were driving along Manchester Road one of their own vehicles broke down and the AA were called out.
The car, which was insured by one of the suspects, was fixed and the men allegedly continued with the burglaries.
The men were ordered to pull over at 4am by officers from Cheshire Police in order to carry out a stop and search.
While carrying out the search or the car officers discovered tools including crowbars and tow rope.
The men from Salford are expected to appear at Halton Magistrates' Court today, Tuesday.
