THROUGHOUT November our Humans of Warrington feature will be telling the stories behind Women's Institute (WI) members as the organisation celebrates 100 years in 2015.
NAME: Pat Hewitt
AGE: 68
OCCUPATION: Retired admin manager
WI ROLE: Press officer at Croft WI
"I have been a member of the WI since 1996 after hearing about it through a neighbour but I didn't really get that involved until I retired in 2006.
"I wasn't sure at first as I was in my 40s and thought it might be a bit old but there's a really good mix of ages.
"It's a social event and it's enlightening as we have speakers every week.
"It's not all jam and Jerusalem as we have lots of different groups including one for readers that meet once a month, a luncheon club, a darts and very active bowling team and we go on lots of outings to different places.
"But having said that we do also have ladies who bake for each meeting during a break with a cup of tea.
"It's a very big group in Croft but it's a very relaxed, chatty and open-minded WI and we're not uptight.
"I would say to anyone to come along as a visitor as you will be made very welcome."
