A GREEN Lane resident says the area is ‘flooded’ with fallen leaves that prevented him from getting out of his driveway.
Frank Smith says that leaves have swamped the Bruche Heath Gardens area in recent weeks, forcing him to remove a number of sacks full every day.
He believes Warrington Borough Council has failed to act on the situation.
He said: “It’s absolutely terrible – I couldn’t get out of my drive way, I’ve probably been removing four sacks of leaves a day.
“It’s a damn nuisance – I’m a pensioner and me and my neighbours are sick of it.
“It’s just continuous – we’re getting flooded with leaves because the winds blowing them over and nothing’s being done.
“I’ve been collecting four or five sacks of leaves a day and taking them down to the dump – I’ve had to because you can’t walk on the pavements and the green bin collections finish this week.”
Warrington Borough Council says it has been removing fallen leaves in different areas across the town.
A spokesperson the council said: “We have been removing leaves borough-wide for the past three weeks now but recent high winds have seen them fall much faster than normal.
“They get scattered around roads and footpaths from adjacent verges and open spaces so we very much appreciate Mr Smith’s own efforts.
“We will continue to remove leaves throughout the autumn and we’d also like to remind householders that green bin collections will end on November 27 until early March 2016.”
