THE TRAUMA unit at Warrington Hospital has been named one of the best in the country.

The unit scored the highest marks in Cheshire and Merseyside and some the highest in the country in the first national peer review of trauma centres - finishing in the top five of 105.

Units were assessed in three areas – reception and resuscitation, definitive care and rehabilitation – scoring 100 per cent in two criteria and 93 per cent in the other.

Dr Mark Forrest, trauma lead clinician, said: “Warrington has had a long history of delivering high quality trauma care and we are hugely proud that this has now been recognised under such close scrutiny.

“Like all of the local trauma units we play a crucial role in supporting the major trauma centre and the local network but we are delighted to have done so well and it is a huge pat on the back to all of the staff involved across the trust.”
