COMEDIAN John Bishop dropped in on the Centenary Theatre Company’s production of Sister Act last night.

The Thewlis Street-based amateur dramatics company has been performing the musical at the Brindley Arts Centre this week, and the scouse funny man posed for a selfie with the cast during yesterday evening’s show.

Bishop was making a surprise appearance at a comedy club at the Brindley’s adjoining studio theatre in front of an intimate crowd of about 100.

He tweeted the photo and said: “Best stag do I have ever attended.”

Howley resident Seb Farrell, who plays Lieutenant Eddie Souther in the show, said: “John Bishop was filling in at Jason Manford’s comedy club – a comedian bailed at the last minute and Jason Manford put on Facebook that he was sending a new comedian to replace him and tagged John Bishop in it.

“Before he even got there a lot of the cast were quite excited at the fact that he’d be in one of the dressing rooms next to ours.

“The Brindley has got a main theatre that we’re on and he was in the studio theatre next door which holds about 100, so it’s quite a small venue and the thing that Jason Manford does is for young up and coming comedians – it’s not really for established acts but someone dropped out and John Bishop’s obviously local so he filled in.

“During the interval he came back and was talking to the cast and before he knew it 50 nuns had surrounded him and they were taking selfies and he was loving it.

“He’s been tweeting about it last night saying it’s the best stag do he’s ever been on and put something else on Instagram to say I went out looking for a single lady but there was nun to be had.”

The Centenary Theatre Company’s production of Sister Act runs until tomorrow night.
