A CARE home's oldest resident celebrated her 101st birthday to the sounds of American singer John Denver last Wednesday.
Marie Johnson was treated to a party with family, including daughter Pamela, staff and residents last Wednesday at Gainsborough House, on Gainsborough Road.
Mayor Cllr Geoff Settle and mayoress Jean were also invited to celebrate at the party, which was extended to Thursday following its success.
Musician Chris Bannister warmed up for his Parr Hall performance next month to perform songs from Mr Denver including hits Annie's Song and Take Me Home Country Roads.
Event co-ordinators Kerith Pepperdine and Sharon Hutchinson organised the celebrations.
Kerith said: "Marie loved the songs, which was really nice to see.
"It was a fantastic event and you could see everyone enjoyed it. The best thing was seeing all of her friends and family together with her on her birthday.
"It was also great for the Mayor to come along – he stayed for more than an hour and had a really good time."
