A CARER has claimed his 82-year-old mum was left 'breathless and upset' after rudely being 'forced' to leave a taxi.
Eileen Trantum, who is cared for by Peter, said they got a Harry's taxi from their home in Latchford, on Charlton Street, on the morning of October 8.
But moments after both got into the cab 59-year-old Peter asked the driver if he could stop after realising he did not have much money on him.
He was set to go back into the house to get some more but was stunned by the driver's response.
"We got to the end of the road and that is when I mentioned the money to him," he said.
"But he just told me that he was not turning back and said 'get out' of the car so we had to.
"He charged us £2.30 for going down the road so I just gave him what I had on me in my pocket.
"My mum is elderly and it is very difficult for her to walk – she was upset and breathless when we got back to the house."
Following the incident, Peter and Eileen were late for their meeting in the town centre and their efforts to speak to Harry's have been in vain.
Peter said: "I have been into Harry's twice to try and speak to them about it but I am not getting anything back.
"I am really disappointed in the way that we were treated, it is not right.
"I just don't know why the driver reacted like that – I could not believe we were forced to leave.
"I think we should get an explanation of what happened. I hope it doesn't happen to anyone else."
Peter has used Harry's over the years but admits he has never experienced anything similar in the past.
He added: "I have used them over the years but after this I will not be using them from now on."
Harry's has not yet responded to a comment request but its website says it delivers more than 30,000 safe journeys a month.
