FOUR town centre bars have been recognised for their commitment to making Warrington a safer place to go for a night out.

The pubs are the first in the town centre to receive Cheshire Police’s ArcAngel accreditation, which highlights that they have taken measures to ensure public safety.

Dead Eyes on Bridge Street, the Postern Gate on St Austin’s Lane, the Barley Mow in the Old Market Place and the Blue Bell on Horsemarket Street have all been given ArcAngel status.

Inspector Neil Drum said: “We are all committed to working together to make Warrington a safer place to enjoy a night out.

“Another four premises have today received their ArcAngel protected accreditation showing a clear drive and commitment to reducing alcohol related crime in the town centre.

“The premises have received the certificates in recognition of their hard work so far and ongoing commitment to maintaining standards – it recognises the work done by licensees to encourage responsible drinking in their premises and in the town centre as well as discouraging drinking in public and alcohol related anti-social behaviour.”

ArcAngel is joint approach to tackling alcohol related crime between Cheshire Police and agencies including Warrington Borough Council, using various strategies and powers to deal with booze-fuelled anti-social behaviour.

It also aims to raise public awareness of the issues of alcohol related violence and disorder and the potential penalties that offenders face.
