CHILDREN from the Warrington and Liverpool areas attended Chester University over the Easter period to participate in motivational seminars aimed at year 10 pupils, writes Mike Glover.
Inspiring Tomorrow's Leader, Today, the Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Seminar, or HOBY, which is a worldwide project, compiled seminars and workshops throughout the four-day period, which were intended to motivate the children in becoming leaders and being the very best at what they do.
One seminar was a talk with noted motivational speaker Action Jackson, who has previously visited high schools in Warrington, including William Beamont High School.
Two of the very lucky children, however, were selected from the group to go on a trip to Washington DC. Sam Ford and Nicole Whiston were selected for their outstanding participation in the event which impressed the HOBY organisers.
The organisers are now hoping to raise enough money to send the other children to Washington as well. The project was not only beneficial for the children participating but also for two volunteers who helped throughout the event.
Gareth Gooley, aged 18, labelled the event as "the most rewarding experience I've ever done" and Siobhan Temple, also 18, said of her experience with the children, "Fantastic" and "hugely worthwhile".
